Schools compete in energy reduction
Spark the dragon is helping 60 primary schools to reduce their electricity consumption. For a fortnight pupils and staff will be competing to be the school that has shown the greatest reduction in electricity for that period.
Spark the dragon
Pupils have been busy thinking up a name for Cardiff’s very own Energy Dragon. Close to a 100 suggestions were submitted which resulted in Spark or Sbarc in Welsh being chosen as it “makes you think of electricity and the electricity we use everyday”
VSDs at County Hall
Following an energy audit, County Hall had variable speed drives (VSD’s) installed. They reduce the energy usage by air handlers, cutting CO2 emissions by 221 tonnes per year, saving £35k annually. The project has a 9 month payback and cost £26k.
